All-Region Audition Info

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE ELIGIBLE TO AUDITION FOR REGION BAND ON SATURDAY.  Making it to this level of the audition is a big honor, and we are VERY proud of you!

This letter is to provide more details for you about the All-Region Band Auditions on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Covington Middle School in Austin.  We WILL NOT take a bus to auditions.   A map is included on the back of this page with pertinent details for finding Covington.  If transportation to or from Covington is a problem, students should contact Ms. Crowley no later than Thursday, November 12, 2009, and we will make arrangements for them.

Details for the Auditions:

8:00 - 8:15    Arrive @ Covington & report to audition rooms for registration (room numbers will be posted at the school)

8:30 - 8:45    Registration in audition rooms

9:00 Auditions begin

???  Auditions end -- students should bring change or a cell phone to call home when their audition is complete.  Results will be posted when each section’s auditions are complete.

Warm-up area:    Winds and percussion in the cafeteria

What to wear:    Nice school clothes

A concession stand will be available in the Covington cafeteria.  Students in sections with large numbers of people auditioning (flutes/clarinets/trumpets) might want to bring money for lunch as well as funds for any snacks they might want to purchase. Please note -- Students should not leave the Covington campus except with their parents.

From I35 – Take William Cannon.  Go West.  Take a left on Brodie. Take a right on Convict Hill Road.  

From Mopac:  Go East.  Take a Right on Brodie. Take a right on Convict Hill Road. You may park across the street at Bannockburn Baptist Church, as parking is limited at Covington.

All-District Auditions 11/7

Below is information sent home 10/27 about District Auditions... 

TO:                 Parents of Students Auditioning for the All-District Band

DATE:           October 27, 2009

This letter is to provide more details for you about the All-District Band Auditions on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at West Ridge MS (9201 Scenic Bluff, Austin 78733).  We will provide transportation to All-District Tryouts only. Since we will be finished at a wide variety of times, students will be dismissed to go home with a parent at the conclusion of their audition.  Everyone except Flutes, Clarinets, and Trumpets will probably finish before noon.  Should you have transportation problems returning home, please see one of us before Friday, November 6, 2009.

Our school buses will leave from MMS according to the schedule below:

ALL-DISTRICT BAND AUDITION SCHEDULE

            7:15 am           Meet at MMS BH driveway - grumble, yawn, stumble, look really sleepy

            7:30 am           Depart for West Ridge MS

        8:30 am           Students report to audition rooms for registration (room numbers will be posted at                                                           the school)

            9:00 am         Auditions begin -- most sections will be finished by noon

               ???        Auditions end -- Most auditions will be completed by noon.  Results will be posted                                    when each section’s auditions are complete.  All students must sign out in the                                         cafeteria with a chaperone before leaving West Ridge.

Warm-up area: Cafeteria - please do not play your instrument elsewhere

What to wear:             Nice school clothes (perhaps even your band shirt and jeans?!?!?)

A concession stand will be available in the cafeteria.  Students in sections with large numbers of people auditioning (flutes/clarinets/trumpet) might want to bring money for a snack as well as funds for a phone call home.   Other helpful hints -- you may want to bring a jacket/sweater, something to read, bottle of water, etc.  Probably won’t need a pint of blood or Reese’s pieces, but . . .

Please note -- Students MAY NOT leave the West Ridge MS campus except with their parents or someone designated by their parents to bring them home.  You also MUST wait until your room is finished auditioning and check out with a band director before leaving WRMS.

Homecoming Football Game 11/3

Information that went home with students 10/27/09...

TO: WIND ENSEMBLE/SYMPHONIC/CONCERT 1/CONCERT 2 BAND PARENTS

DATE: October 27, 2009

Round 2 – Hopefully rain won’t be a factor this time…here are details to our upcoming performance at the Murchison Homecoming Football Game at Nelson Field Tuesday, November 3, 2009.  All students in the Wind Ensemble & all students in the Symphonic, Concert 1 and Concert 2 Bands, who are academically eligible, are required to attend unless involved as a football player, dance team member, or cheerleader. 

We will provide transportation to Nelson Field and back to MMS for all students on school buses.  (Please note our departure time and the time we will return to school below).  If you would like to take your child home from the stadium with you rather than have him/her ride the bus, please complete the attached form and have him/her bring it to us at school no later than 8:20 a.m., Monday, November 2. 2009.  In order to take the best possible care of your child, we will NOT be able to accept notes after the Monday deadline.  Also, please note that you will need to meet us where the band is sitting in the stadium before we can release the students to come home with you.  If for some unanticipated reason you are not at the stadium at our scheduled departure time, we will bring your child back to Murchison on the bus.  If you wish to meet us at the band hall to pick up your child, please note our scheduled return time.

6:00 P.M.              WARM - UP IN STANDS/PLAY FOR 2^nd HALF OF 7th GRADE GAME

7:00 P.M.              8TH GRADE GAME BEGINS (We will depart @ 9:00 pm or the conclusion of the

game – whichever is earlier.)

9:00 – 9:30 P.M.      ARRIVE @ MMS BAND HALL

UNIFORM     For pep rally/game  = Band shirt (tucked in please)

                  Blue jeans

                  Tennis Shoes

TAKE  Instrument/Football Music in flip folder/lyre

Students will need to either eat w/ us at Mr. Gattis ($7) or bring a snack to eat BEFORE we meet at 5:00.  Concessions will NOT be available.  WE WILL TAKE A SMALL-SIZED BOTTLED WATER FOR EACH STUDENT, BUT students ARE ENCOURAGED to take bottled water of their own as well.

Fair Share/Fundraising Receipts

Receipts for all Fair Share and Fundraising donations may be printed by logging in to your student's Charms account.  After logging in, go to the "Finances" section.  Each entry will have a button next to it with the letter "R" on it .  Pressing this button will generate a receipt that may be printed as a record for tax purposes.
